Cathedral City

In the late 1930s, acclaimed landscape painter Agnes Lawrence Pelton established the influential Cove Artists’ Colony around her home in the dramatic surroundings of Cathedral Cove—a stadium-like canyon at the edge of what would later become Cathedral City. The legacy of Pelton’s colony can be experienced today in the city’s downtown Civic Center, where the popular Mary Pickford Theatre and the Coachella Valley Repertory Theatre surround an impressive display of public art and open spaces. But don’t miss Cathedral City’s unique annual events either, including the Christmas Fair, zany team Bed Race, Hot Air Balloon Festival, and National College Softball Tournament in the city’s landmark Big League Dreams Sports Park.
